Get ready to explore the power of cold exposure! This brief guide will walk you through what to expect, how to prepare, and the necessary safety information for your ice bath experience today.

    What to Expect:

    • Initial Shock - Gasping is normal, focus on controlling your breath.
    • Breathing - Regain slow controlled exhales while in the cold.
    • Sensations - Tingling or numbness might occur, if anything hurts such as toes or fingers, bring them out of the water.
    • Mind - Your mind might ask you to exit. Stay a bit longer to train resilience, or exit quickly to train compassion and recovery.
    • Post-Plunge - An immediate euphoric high, but possible shivers for up to 60 mins if you stay too long.

    Strategy for Entering the Ice

    1. Mindset - With calm confidence, trust your body's ability to adapt
    2. Breath Control - Take a few deep inhales, then focus on long, slow exhales as you enter to manage the gasp reflex.
    3. Entry - Keep your hands out first, enter slowly and don't rush.
    4. Focus - Bring attention to your breath, listen to your body and stay present.
    5. Duration - If it's your first time, 60-90 seconds is enough, or until your breath has calmed down.
    6. Exit - When guided, slowly exit the tub and prepare to warm up.

    Warming Up

    • Before entering, light bodyweight movements can help heat up the body.
    • After exiting, perform gentle movements like Horse Stance to generate body heat.
    • Avoid immediate hot showers or excessive rubbing of your skin so that your body can re-warm itself naturally instead of forcing cold blood back to your core too quickly.
